Thief (1981) Empty Thief (1981)

Michael Mann's first feature film. This was really, really good, a slow-burning very 1980s neo-noir about a safe-breaker (played by James Caan) who falls in with a Jewish gangster. Apparently its John Belushi's first film and one of the cops is played by an ex-thief while one of the thieves is played by an ex-cop. Filmed in Chicago with lots of atmospheric shots of neon signs, rain-slicked streets and elevated railway lines. Moody soundtrack by Tangerine Dream.

I remember this being quite good. I tried to watch Blackhat, Mann's most recent movie, and it is unbearably dull.
