A bus driver I met at a party told me the closest seat to the driver is called the 'idiot seat' as it where the morons who talk to drivers like to sit. In London they're protected....

On TTC bus there are four seat that are on their own (nothing beside them) and face forward. These are the choice seats to get. The best is the one at the front as you have the most legroom.

LOL at 'Idiot Seat' I can just imagine the shear dread when a known local eccentric sits down and natters away.

Re: Favoured seat on a bus
I usually like to sit in the far back, left hand side of a bus for longer journeys.
But Vancouver's SkyTrain Expo Line has the best public transit seat I've encountered. The trains (which are driven by robots) have a single seat in the front so you can sit there and pretend to be in control. It's particularly nice heading west at sunset.

The Docklands Light Railway is also driven by robots and lets you do the same. Always a treat to get the seat by the front window.
