Rude Boy (1980) Empty Rude Boy (1980)

I remember watching this when I was in high school and being soooo confused by its pacing and, more generally, what was going on.  Fifteen years of reading history and watching both documentaries and social realist films I've come to appreciate this movie.  They kindof play down the Clash self-mythologizing and its an interesting mix of documentary realism and narrative.  Has all the great things you expect from a movie of this era - racist coppers, fights, National Front graffiti, tower blocks, the tube, etc., etc.,  The only thing that is still mystifying is the sub-plot about the Stockwell pick-pockets which seems to have nothing to do with the movie.  I guess they are really rude boys whereas Ray Ganges is the poseur?  Another thing I like about this film is that the protagonist if a bit of a tosser... something you don't see all that often.
